First College Trip

Our son was still in middle school when he decided he was going to culinary school. Now, in his junior year of high school, he hasn't wavered. In fact, he did the research and found one that he wanted to attend in Campbell, California (just outside of San Jose). We decided he should go see it during spring break. "Do you want me or your dad to go with you?" I asked. He paused like he hadn't heard me. I was about to repeat the question when he answered. "Actually" he said, I'd like to have both of you.

Now it was my turn to pause. "Okay" I answered trying to sound confident. "Sure. I think we can make that happen." It wasn't that I didn't want to go - the three of us, it was just that I hadn't really considered that possibility. I'd assumed that it would be one of us or the other. During my phone conversation with his dad later that evening, we agreed that it would be a good thing for both of us to go. I called the school the next day and confirmed that his father and I both would be bringing him up for his tour. The trip itself was quick. We flew up early, got to the school early. Had our tour early and had an early lunch before catching a flight home (early!). Our son was over the moon. He LOVED the school.

And if I had to guess, as much as he loved the school, I think he also loved the fact that he got to see it with both of his parents at the same time. He sat in between us for most of the trip. I think that says it all.
